Comeford's Journalism Class

This is my first blog, but I hope that reader's find helpful information about my Journalism classes as well as my adventures in getting my masters in Journalism at Kent State.

I have been a Journalism adviser for four years now, however, I did not begin my teaching career with the intentions of advising yearbook or newspaper.  I attended Saint Mary's College with the intention of teaching high school social studies after.  However, CPS had different plans for me.  After teaching Economics for two years, I gained my endorsement in English and started the Journalism Department at Phoenix Military Academy.  In the fall of 2010, I taught mine and the school's first Journalism class.  Since then students have created 4 yearbooks. In 2013 The Phoenix Chronicle launched as Phoenix's first news website.

In addition to teaching Journalism and advising both publications, I am also the Region 3 representative for the Illinois Journalism Education Association. I represent the Cook and DuPage counties.  After school I teach Driver Education, volunteer with Sisterhood, an all girls mentoring club at Phoenix, and run the Chicago half marathon with Road Scholars annually.

Please check out our Phoenix Military Academy news website, The Phoenix Chronicle.  We welcome feedback and comments!
